It’s not the most exciting word. But consistency might just be the one that changes everything.

I know we’re not quite there yet, but the word of April, for me at least, is consistency. We’ve all heard of it, and, according to the Cambridge dictionary means: ‘the quality of always behaving or performing in a similar way, or of always happening in a similar way.’

It’s not a sexy word, but it’s a word implying being habitual; of doing the same thing over again to achieve results.

Six weeks, one challenge, and a lesson in what happens when you keep going even when you don’t feel like it.

So, why do I want April to be about consistency? March was all about re-emerging, about coming out of hibernation and the small, green shoots of spring. There are probably words or themes which follow more naturally, but as we reach the end of March, I’ve come to the end of a 28-day fitness challenge.

The aim was simple – do a fitness class every day for 28 days. As I also do reformer Pilates once a week, on those days, I would pause, so it would likely take me about 33-34 days (if I included days in the office as well). It actually took me 6 weeks as I was poorly for the better part of a week and there was no way I was exercising, but the point is, I completed it yesterday.

I finished my 28-day fitness challenge — and what I learned has nothing to do with exercise.

And when you do something that you say you’re going to do, it’s such a great feeling. I showed up for myself every day, it wasn’t always fun, but I did it. 6 weeks on, I’ve lost weight, I’m fitter, stronger (though it didn’t feel like it in my workout yesterday!) and I have a new habit.

That’s why, for me, April will be the month of consistency. Of every single day, chipping away at something. Showing up for myself, whether it’s exercise, drinking water every day, getting good sleep, or in my business.

It’s not always exciting, but the results you will get, by turning up every single day for yourself will be worth it.

What if April was the month you finally stopped waiting and started chipping away?

If you were consistent for every day in April, what would that look like? Where could you be on 30th April if you showed up for yourself every day betwen now and then? Give it a go and find out!
