My weekend wasn’t perfect, but it had a really good balance, which is something I’ve been striving for for a while. Saturday morning was lazy / chilled / enter appropriate adjective! I basically just stayed in bed because I could. Last week had been pretty full on and whilst there were things I wanted to do over the weekend, I also recognised that I needed the rest and listened to my body.

Listening to Your Body

I did my weekly food shop and spent the afternoon watching Christmas movies. I did some crafty stuff as well, but I definitely took it easy. It can be so easy to get caught up in being busy, in the go, go go, because there’s always something to do. And yes, sometimes we do just need to pull on our big girl pants, and get stuck in. Sometimes though, resting and talking time out is as important.

When Opportunity Knocks

On Sunday, we had a rare dry and mild day. My plans changed on the spur of the moment and so I painted the outside of the front of my house. It had been a summer job that I just never quite got round to doing and as autumn arrived, so did the rain. Whenever I was home and had time on my hands, so it seemed the rain fell. You can’t paint in the rain, or when it’s too cold and I was starting to think that this would turn into a spring project. When I saw the sun beaming down, I changed my plans (mostly indoors and relating to my website), and took advantage of the good weather.

The Joy of Finishing Something

And guess what? I love how it turned out! And it’s finished. Although I’m now wondering whether I should also paint my front door, and what colour that should be (and that is likely to be a spring project now!).

Whilst I was waiting for the first coat to dry, I cranked up the Nutcracker (Christmas can start on 2nd November, right?!), opened up my laptop, and started the things I’d wanted to get done. Did they all get done? No, but the outside of my house is pretty!

Flexibility vs. Fixation

It’s easy to get fixated on the things that we plan or intend to do, but a bit of flexibility and spontaneity can be a good thing. It makes life interesting. Also, I’ve completed something I’ve wanted to do for about 6 months, and that feels amazing.

Your Weekly Nudge

This week, what can you finish that you’ve maybe been procrastinating over? Or does an opportunity find you, that means you change your plans and get something done, or have an amazing time?

It feels a bit like I’m teaching you how to suck eggs when I write this, but sometimes a little nudge that we can change what we were going to do, or it’s OK to do something else, is a great reminder that we’re in charge of our lives and a few tweaks that we maybe hadn’t considered can lead to some great things and a feeling of satisfaction at a job well done.
