Last week, you ignored all the ‘new year, new you’ nonsense, and created a one page document about how awesome you are! Congratulations on taking some time on yourself. I’m carrying on the theme this week of taking a piece of paper and dividing it in two. You can do this horizontally, vertically, diagonally, you can have the piece of paper landscape or portrait, whatever works for you!
At the very top, write ‘2025’.
On one half write: I’m going to go / have / be / do and on the other half write: I would like to go / have / be / do.
And then mind dump on each side the things you are doing and the things you want to do. Don’t worry about the when or the how. So for example, in January I’m going to a class where I’m going to paint a highland cow and in March I’m going to London for a concert. Write down the specific things you are actually doing / places where you’re going. This is so that you have things to look forward to this year. If you don’t have specific plans, but you have a routine, for example, you go for a walk every Sunday, write that down. You can add to this throughout the year. I like to have concrete things that I know I’m doing, so I can have something to look forward to.
On the other side, what would you like to do in 2025? Whilst win the lottery would be great, it’s probably an unrealistic goal! I want to buy a car this year. I also want to go on holiday and I’m going to start my business. I started knitting a poncho a couple of years ago and I want to finish it this year and I’d also like to run a ParkRun by the end of the year. For you, maybe you want to change your job, move house or it could be a lot smaller, like learn a new language, take up a new hobby, write the novel you promised yourself you’d do.
You can be as adventurous as you’d like to be, this is your list of your dreams and goals. Don’t worry about the how or the when, that’s for next week. Take some time on this and when you’re done, put it alongside your list from last week about how awesome you are, and have it somewhere you can see it all the time. I’m hoping that both of these pieces of paper will inspire you during the cold and dark January days and give you something to look forward to.
Let me know how you found this, I’d love to hear from you!
