My blogs don’t usually have a theme tune, but if they did, today’s would be by Soul II Soul and Caron Wheeler: Keep on Movin’

I finished my office a couple of weeks ago and am now just working on the finishing touches. I cleaned and tidied my house from top to bottom, put everything in the rooms they’re all supposed to be in and felt a tremendous sense of calm. And this weekend, I started on my lounge. I emptied it (filling up my hall and dining room again in the process!) and hoped stripping the wallpaper would be fairly easy. I have no idea what paper was used, but it’s coming off in 3 layers – the top, textured layer, then the paper and finally, a layer of glue. Because I’m painting the room, I can’t just leave the glue in place, as it won’t be smooth and will just look awful, and I imagine it will take a number of hours to completely remove it.

I know it will be worth it in the end and the room will look great, but I’m already dreading it. I’m reminded though that if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing well. I’m thinking about the satisfaction I’ll feel when I’m sat on my new sofa, glass of wine in hand, chilling out and admiring my handiwork.

Alongside this, I’m also continuing to build my business. It does feel at times that there’s little progress being made there too, but things take time. I have a new logo – I decided that whilst I can do a lot of things, designing something that would actually look good, was a bit beyond my capabilities. I’m happy to give things a go, but I’m also aware that I can’t do everything – either due to time or ability. Starting a business can be expensive, so I’m trying to strike that balance of doing what I can but also leaving certain things to the experts.

I think it’s important at the start of my business to know how to do everything and then over time, to let go of the inner control freak and focus on the things that I need to do and take on support for the daily things that need doing, just not necessarily by me. Sadly I’m not at the relinquish stage just yet, but I’ll get there.

I think my message is similar to last week’s blog really – just keep putting one foot in front of the other one. I’ve achieved quite a lot this week and ticked a few things off my list, but I’ve also added quite a few things more to it, and that’s life really.

So, in the immortal words of the great Jazzie B: keep on moving, don’t stop. Of course, have a sit down and a cup of tea from time to time, find some music, or a podcast, an audio book, the radio, anything really, to keep you company and just keep going. You’ll get there and I’m cheering you on.
