Dreams That Feel Too Big (But Are Worth It)
Hands up who has a dream, or a goal. Keep your hand up if it feels challenging. You think you can make it happen, but it’s going to take time, it’s going to be hard and you’re probably going to question your sanity multiple times in the process!
Why I Wanted a Podcast (Even If I Wasn’t Sure Why!)
My hand is still up! I’ve mentioned this before, but back in February, before I even launched my business, I had an idea that I wanted to have a podcast. I’m not sure why I wanted one, I’m still not really sure, as it seemed like another thing to do that I maybe didn’t have time for, but I thought I’d do it anyway.
Curiosity, Conversations and Turning 50
I wrote down a list of topics, themes and guests that covered 18 months. I thought about what I wanted it to be. At the time (and it’s still true now), I didn’t want it to feel too ‘coachy’ or ‘preachy’. I wanted to have conversations with real people, about things that matter to me. Some of my guests will have lived experiences of cancer, or moving abroad and others will be experts in their fields, such as finance, divorce and bereavement.
Discovery Corner: What to Expect
I turn 50 next year (I know I’ve mentioned this before, it’s a strong motivator for a lot of things that I’m doing at the moment), I’m interested in a wide variety of topics and essentially my podcast is a way for me to be nosey curious and to say to people that I like and admire ‘will you talk to me’ but in a way that doesn’t make me sound like a weirdo! (Perhaps I do know why I want a podcast after all!!!)
Mini Discoveries: Small Nuggets, Big Value
So back to my first question, about my dream. My podcast is launched this Friday (5th September). A couple of episodes are already live. There will be one monthly episode, released on the first Friday of the month, and it’ll be around 30 minutes long. And in the intervening weeks, I’m releasing ‘mini discoveries’. There won’t necessarily be one every week, and I’m going to try and tie them into my monthly themes, though I won’t always. These will be around 5 minutes and are just me, talking about something. The first one I recorded is 2 1/2 minutes long, so they won’t always even be 5 minutes! They’re little nuggets of goodness and another way for me to offer some tips and mini strategies, or just say ‘keep going’ when times are a bit tough.
Learning as I Go (and Embracing Imperfection)
I’ve said in many places that I call myself ‘Little Miss Technophobe’ and technology is not always my friend. I’m doing my best with these and learning all the time. I’m also (full disclosure) using free versions of pretty much everything, so you may hear a few little noises from time to time. When I’m more confident and a bit further in my podcast journey, and paying for software, I may well come back and re-edit some of the earlier podcasts, or I may just leave them as a reminder that we’re not always perfect and that we grow with time and experience.
An Invitation to You
I really hope you enjoy them and you find my guests interesting. If you want a topic covered either in a podcast or a mini-discovery, please drop me an email and I’ll see what I can do and I’d love for you to stay curious with me.
