September – the perfect time for a reset

September is a great month for a reset – what you’ve done this year, what you still want to do this year, how you’re feeling right now and how you want to feel on 31st December (which is only about 100 days away).

14 Fridays until Christmas (yes, really)

I heard on the radio this morning that there are 14 Fridays until Christmas. EEK! It’ll be here before you know it. Usually, by this time of the year, I’ve started planning what I want Christmas to look like, what I want to eat and I’ve started my food shopping (which means whenever I do a weekly shop, I’ll pop a jar of chutney or something with a decent shelf life into my trolley and it helps spread the cost).

A different kind of Christmas this year

This year, I’m doing it a bit differently and probably a bit more low key. I haven’t even thought about Christmas. I’ve spent the last 4 months training – first to become a menopause support coach and as soon as that finished, I dived straight into a course to become a menopause trainer.

Two courses, two passes and completely wiped out

I can confirm I passed them both (hurrah!) but honestly, along with my job, and building my business, they’ve wiped me out! And that’s also because I’ve been trying to navigate perimenopause, trying to have a life and finishing projects that I’ve started as I’d like to ‘finish’ my house. I moved in just over 2 years ago and the rooms that I started are all about 90-something percent finished, just not 100%…

The plate spinning is real

I made a promise to myself that if I’d started something, I’d finish it by the end of the year and that seems to be going OK. The hot weather this summer somewhat slowed my progress, but the plate spinning it tough – after work do I spend time on my business, finish my house, spend time on me? There’s only so much I can do, priorities shift almost daily there isn’t an easy answer.

Why not having a deadline is actually okay

But that’s OK. There’s no deadline for anything. I want my house finished, but if things creep into next year, that’s not the end of the world. Yes, I want to grow my business and that will take time. And yes, I need to prioritise me as if I’m not well, nothing will happen at all.

One day at a time – and seeing what happens

Occasionally I’ll drop some plates, I’ll put some down, pick up some new ones, and that’s life really, We’re always changing and evolving. I had no idea perimenopause would even be on my radar 12 months ago and now it’s changed not only my life but my business. All we can really do is take one day at a time, have an idea where we want to go, start on the journey and see what happens along the way.
