The never-ending to-do list

Rather unusually for me, I had a mammoth to-do list this weekend. And somewhat expectedly for me, I didn’t get quite a lot of it done!

I think this is common for us all – being constantly ambitious with what we’re able to do in what is actually quite a short amount of time, added to underestimating how long things actually take and maybe thinking that this weekend we’re not going to procrastinate and go down a social media rabbit hole.

Now, I actually did get quite a lot done – life admin, business stuff, food shop, I painted the inside of my shed door (one day I’ll finish painting…!), I had a lie-in on Sunday and I even did something I only decided on as a last minute thing – I took my bike out (and my legs are still feeling it!).

Finding balance between productivity and rest

I also took some (unplanned) down time. I’m somewhat burning the candle at both ends at the moment (and in the middle as well – if that’s possible) and with some very nice weather, I pressed pause, chilled out in my garden and even did a spot of sunbathing. The summer will be over soon, the weather will get colder (it’s already getting darker earlier) and I decided that everything on my list could wait and I’d make the most of the sunshine.

Sometimes, we’re so focused on what’s going on, what we have to do or think we have to do, that we don’t enjoy the process and we don’t stop to smell the roses.

Making the most of small moments

I doubt those few hours I took out will make that much of a difference, but I had a good blast of vitamin D, I saw a bee enjoying one of my roses and I remembered why I’m working so hard – so that I can have more times when I can just be, and just enjoy the moment.

Remembering what’s really important

Sometimes we get so caught up in ticking things off lists that we forget what’s really important. What can you do differently this week, or where can you press pause so that you’re enjoying life’s journey, rather than thinking solely about its destination?
