I’ve lost my mojo recently. Summer was good, I embraced September, the start of a new season and the last third of the year, things were ticking along nicely and then poof! Life happened. I pressed pause on my business (or at least the go-slow button), I drifted for a few weeks and I felt overwhelmed, like I didn’t know what I was doing and it’s been a bit rubbish, honestly.
When Life Slows You Down
The thing is, this is all perfectly normal. We can’t keep going at a million miles an hour without a break, so it was probably inevitable that this would happen at some point.
Why Losing Your Mojo Happens
In August, I made a huge to-do list – I promised myself I’d finish all the jobs I’ve started and not yet finished by the end of the year (both in my home and my business) and I have been ticking a few off, but I still felt unfulfilled. Yes, it’s nice to have that satisfaction that it’s all done, and yet something was still missing.
The Seasonal Shift & How It Affects Us
I think once you lose your mojo, it’s hard to find it again. It doesn’t really happen overnight and for me it’s taken time. I forgot that I find this time of year hard – as we go into autumn, the clocks go back and it’s dark and then gets cold, it’s tough. I have mild SAD (season affected disorder) and I’m not good without natural light. I also have Raynaud’s and so when I get cold, it can be painful. I’ve also neglected the exercises my personal trainer gave me, and so I’m in chronic pain at the moment and all of that has crept up on me, so it’s not really a surprise I’ve been struggling.
Finding Joy and Purpose Again
I haven’t really pushed through – I’ve been listening to my body, taking it easy and looking for fun. I’ve booked some things to look forward to (a Christmas wreath making workshop next month and I’m going to Berlin for new year) and then recently I’ve reflected on my goals. Are they still what I want to do, am I still heading in the direction that I think is right for me? The answer to both those questions, is yes. And ultimately, that’s how I rediscovered my focus.
Moving Forward, One Step at a Time
We only have one life, and it’s this one. I don’t want to wonder what I could have done, or been. I don’t want to wake up one day and regret not making the most of what I do have, and wishing I’d been braver to try new things. I want to be thankful for what I have and have done and I want to take risks and see what’s out there.
Am I going to have wobbles this autumn / winter? Undoubtedly. But that’s life. It’s never a straight line. It’s not always easy. I do know that if I surround myself with good people, I have faith in myself and I keep putting one foot in front of the other, I can achieve what I set my mind to and along the way, I’ll be having hot chocolate, going for walks in the cold and challenging myself to be the best version of myself.
Your Turn
There are still 2 months left of 2025. I have so many things I want to achieve (and that includes planning a challenge I’m launching in January – more in the coming weeks on that!) and I’m determined to at least do some of them. If there are things you want to do, but need some help, please get in touch – I’d love to help you.
