An Unexpected Card in the Post
I received a card in the post last week. Nothing unusual about that, this time of year, you might think. At closer inspection of the envelope, I thought ‘I recognise that writing!’ I should have – it was mine!
A Card Written With Intention
Now, I didn’t send myself a Christmas card, but it was a card I wrote to myself back in June, when I attended ‘Dare Greatly,’ a day I spent with fellow coaches. At the end of the day, we were asked to write a card to our future selves, as if it were the end of the year, and we’d done the things we said we would that day.
What I’ve Achieved — and What I Haven’t (Yet)
I got quite emotional when I read it, because the things I said I would do, I’ve done, with the (ahem, notable) exception of one thing, which is setting up an email list and newsletter. It’s been on my to-do list for about 6 months and I’ve dipped in and out of trying to build it for about 4 months. I’ve struggled with the tech, but there have been some mental blocks too, if I’m honest with myself.
Time to Focus…
There are still 2 weeks left of 2025 and I WILL have a sign-up for a newsletter by the end of the year! I’ve spent a good chunk of this weekend on it and actually I feel like I finally know what I’m doing, so this week I’ll get my head down and see where I am this time next week.
Why This Card Meant So Much
So why am I sharing this? 6 months ago, I set a course for the rest of the year and I’ve broadly done what I said I would. It was ambitiously realistic, meaning achievable but still out of my comfort zone. Reading the card brought back memories of the summer, but more importantly, the realisation that if you set yourself a goal, you can make it happen, with hard work, determination and belief. (and maybe Google too!)
There’s Still Time to Finish Strong
There are still 2 weeks left of 2025. If there’s something that you still want to achieve this year, there’s still time. For me, it’s a newsletter, but what about you? What’s that one thing, that when we get to December 31st, you can say ‘I did that?’ And what do you need to do to make it happen? Once you know that, then in the immortal words of Nike, Just Do It!
