The accident that changed everything
Just before Christmas 2014, I found myself in the same lane as a lorry on the M25. It was for a fraction of a second, and then after doing a 180, and a few somersaults, my car was upside down in a field next to the motorway. I climbed out of the boot, and was incredibly lucky to walk away. My body took a battering though, and 10+ years later, I still see a physio. I go every 2 months as a sort of maintenance thing. It’s not fun, but if I want to be healthy in my 60s and beyond, it’s part of my self-care.
Perimenopause, exhaustion and brain fog on top of a painful trip to they physio
I remind myself that on days like today – the morning after. Every part of my body we worked on is screaming at me and it’ll take a few days to settle down. Throw perimenopause into the mix – the exhaustion and brain fog, and I’ll be honest, today will not be my most productive day ever.
We never really know what someone else is carrying
I’m not saying this to elicit sympathy, but more as a reminder – we don’t know what’s going on in other people’s lives. If someone asks me how I am, my go to response is ‘I’m good thanks,’ even when I’m not. Which feels like most of the time…
The days when getting through is enough
There are days we simply have to get through, however we can, there’s nothing anyone can do, it’s sadly, a part of life. This may be a bit too personal and I could be oversharing, but it’s important to normalise days like today. The days when no-one can do anything and I just have to get through. Because we all have them. And your bad days will look different to mine, but you will have them. And you will get through them. Don’t be afraid to say ‘you know what, today isn’t a good day,’ even if it’s just to yourself, be kind to yourself and get through any way you can. And hopefully, the next day will be better.
Be kind to yourself today
No tips today, no advice, just me doing my best on a tough day, because we all have them…
