Episode 11: Hot Outside, Hot Inside: A Perimenopause Summer Guide
If you’re perimenopausal or menopausal and this summer has felt unbearably hard (and we’re still only in July!), this episode of Discovery Corner® is for you. Coach and menopause support coach-in-training Claire Melvin explains exactly what’s happening in your body as well as what you can actually do about it.
You’ll discover:
- The four stages of menopause and what they actually mean
- What estrogen does in the body and why falling levels affect absolutely everything, from your brain, to your bones, to your sleep
- Why perimenopause and summer is such a brutal combination and the science behind it
- Your cool bag: practical, immediate tools for getting through the heat
- Why you should make a fuss — and how to advocate for yourself with your GP
- The foot bucket story that will make you feel very seen 🪣
Whether you’re newly perimenopausal or well into the journey, this episode will leave you feeling educated, empowered and a little less alone.
Here are 3 key takeaways from this episode:
- Menopause is not an illness or a disease, but it does need understanding.
Every woman will go through it, yet most of us arrive at perimenopause knowing very little. Understanding what’s happening in your body is the first step to managing it. - Estrogen does far more than you think:
It’s involved in brain function, bone density, cardiovascular health, skin elasticity, mood, sleep and body temperature regulation. When it starts to fall, erratically, not linearly, the ripple effect touches almost everything. - The cool bag you need:
Stay hydrated with water and electrolytes, eat for the heat, manage your environment – close windows and curtains in the day, open up in the evening, rest without guilt, protect your sleep, keep your pulse points cool, and buy a foot bucket if you need one. 🪣
