Discovery Corner® Podcast Show Notes
Episode 8: Swedish Death Cleaning, 60 Mugs and Keeping Stuff You Secretly Hate
In this solo episode, I talk about decluttering – acknowledging that clutter builds up gradually – it doesn’t happen overnight; how to start, including working out what to keep, donate, sell or throw away; and giving you permission to rehome your unwanted gifts, as we all have them!
The episode is full of practical tips, stories from my own decluttering sessions, and I suggest that it is better to be and do than to have (though it’s still OK to have!).
Here are 3 key takeaways from this episode:
- Clutter builds up gradually: it’s one letter, or magazine, or spare tupperware lid at a time, therefore it may take time to let it go.
- Swedish death cleaning is demystified: it isn’t morbid, but it’s taking responsibility for your possessions now, so that your relatives aren’t burdened in the future.
- You don’t have to tackle everything all at once: set a timer for one hour and see how much you can achieve.
